Skiathos

Skiathos is a cosmopolitan, wooded island with beautiful sandy beaches, including the very famous Koukounaries, and attracts many tourists from April to October.

The capital of the island is Skiathos town, a beautiful town overlooking a romantic and lush bay. The alleys of the village are full of taverns, ouzerie, antique stores, jewelers and trendy places where to relax at the end of a day at sea.

When to go to Skiathos

The best period to visit Skiathos is from April to September. July and August are the hottest and most expensive months, recommended May, June and September.

The tourist season in Skiathos starts at the end of April with the celebrations of the Orthodox Easter and continues until October. In May and June the island is still quiet: the water begins to warm, the daytime temperatures are high but not oppressive while in the evening they are pleasantly cool. These months, together with September and October, are ideal to fully enjoy the lush nature of the island and optimal for excursions.

According to the islanders September is the best month to visit Skiathos: the island begins to empty, the sea is warm, the beaches are quiet and the streets of the capital relaxing and pleasant, ideal for a walk at sunset and a little shopping in the craft stores.

From October until the end of November the weather gradually worsens, the temperatures drop and the rains are peeping on Skiathos. In December , during the harshest winters, snowflakes even fall, making the landscape magical and fascinating. From January to March, rain falls regularly on the island but temperatures almost never drop below 8 degrees.

In April vacationers begin to awaken the island and spring gives them wonderful games of lights and colors.

Among the rich vegetation of pines and olive trees are the famous beaches of Skiathos, coasts of golden sand that make the Greek island one of the most popular destinations of the Mediterranean.

It is possible to reach Skiathos by plane or by sea, calling at the port of Piraeus in Athens.

Flights to Skiathos

During the summer from the rest of Europe there are direct flights to the airport of Skiathos, which is located 2 kilometers from the capital of the island. If you don’t find the suitable direct flight, you can also think about having a stopover in Athens: Olympic Airlines offers daily flights from the Greek capital.

From Athens airport there are several flights per week. The duration of the flight is 40 minutes. Alternatively, you can also fly to Volos and then take a ferry to Skiathos.
