The airport that connects the island of Lefkada to Europe is Aktion National Airport (IATA code: PVK), located in the town of Aktio-Vonitsa on the western outskirts of Greece, 3 kilometers south of the town of Preveza. Although the island of Lefkada does not have its own airport, Preveza Airport serves the island of Lefkada, which can be reached by traveling the mere 20 kilometers from the airport.
In operation since 1968, Preveza Airport is used not only as a tourist stopover for the island of Lefkada and Preveza but also as a NATO base by the Greek military. Numerous charter and seasonal flights connect the island to the rest of Europe, in greater numbers during the summer season, with peaks of more than 140,000 international flights arriving and departing throughout the year.
Transfers to and from the airport can be made by bus and cab from Lefkada and Preveza Vónitsa or by rental car.
