Santorini Airport

Theinternational airport of Santorini (JTR) is located 7 kilometers south from the capital Fira, north Kamari village and not far from the village of Monolithos, in the central eastern part of the island.

The airport is connected with most of the international airports by direct flights operated by national airlines and low cost airlines even if sometimes it is necessary to make a stopover in Athens. The Greek capital is connected with the island of Thira with a flight lasting just 45 minutes.

Numerous are the direct charter flights coming from different European places especially during the summer period.

Santorini International Airport, also known as Thira Airport, is located on the eastern side of the island and is the largest in the southern Aegean Sea.

Connections to and from Santorini Airport

Private transfers are preferable to cabs for a very simple reason. The number of cabs in Santorini is not sufficient to cover the high demand in the summer months. Since cabs at the airport cannot be booked, you risk being left waiting for a long time. With the private transfer this does not happen because it can conveniently be booked online before departure; in case of plane delay, the driver will remain at the airport to wait for you.

Connections to and from Fira

Reaching Fira from Santorini airport (or vice versa) is very easy. The buses of the local transport company KTEL connect the capital of the island and the airport with runs every 30 minutes.

The bus station of Fira is located near the historic center, the bus makes several stops along the way and the total duration of the trip is twenty to thirty minutes depending on traffic and the number of passengers getting off at each stop.

By car or cab, the journey time is reduced to just ten minutes.

Connections to and from the port of Athinios

There are no direct buses from the airport of Santorini to the port of Athinios, the only port of departure and arrival of the ferries. To move from the airport to the port by bus is therefore necessary to change in Fira, which will probably force you to a long wait.

Two much more comfortable and faster solutions are the cab and the private transfer.

Connections with other locations

As with the port, there are no direct buses from the airport to the resorts of Santorini, with the only exception of Fira. To reach any town or beach you must first arrive in Fira and from there take a second bus to get to your final destination.

The buses to the most tourist resorts, such as Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani and Perissa, are quite frequent (one every half an hour in the summer months) but schedules can change from year to year and the waits between one bus and another can be very long.

Also in this case it is therefore advisable to book a private transfer or rent a car.

Arrivals and Departures
